About us
Learning Centre IDEM is the first institution for adult education on a national level. Its goal is providing education to all stakeholders that are active in the process of upbringing and education of children and pupils with disabilities.
Learning Centre IDEM aims at developing a model of inclusive upbringing and education, at improving the quality of educational process and at protecting and promoting rights of children and youth with disabilities.
Formal education of teachers and experts active in educational institutions, in case when they are not rehabilitation professionals, does not provide adequate specific knowledge needed to work with children and pupils with disabilities. Most of the time teachers can not recognise specific needs of their students in time. Educational institutions sometimes lack organised professional support when dealing with educational inclusion. Educated teachers are a major precondition for real inclusive education. By educating teachers and experts working in educational institutions to develop and implement individualised educational programmes, we enable our end users – children with disabilities – to develop their abilities optimally as well as to attain positive emotional and social relations with their social environment.
Education for preschool educators and experts working in preschool institutions
This education is meant for all preschool educators and experts working in preschool institutions. The goal of this education is developing inclusion and prompting early intervention. Early intervention is one of the most successful approaches in working with children with disabilities.
Workshops for Teachers
Workshops are meant for all teachers working in elementary and secondary educational institutions. Their goal is to improve competence and lift the quality of work with students with disabilities. Themes for workshops have been selected according to the most common needs occurring in practice.
Education of Teachers for inclusive Education
This education is meant for all teachers working in elementary and secondary schools. Focus of this education is on personal growth and development through presenting subjects relevant for quality upbringing and education, not only for students with disabilities but for all students in the educational system. This education is primarily meant for all teachers who want to feel more comfortable and competent in their professional role, as conductors of the educational process.
Education for Mobile Expert Team members/Special Institutions Transformation
Mobile expert teams play a major part in including children with disabilities into the regular system of education. The goal of quality educational inclusion is transformation of special institutions into referral centres that provide support to regular educational institutions. In order to transform a special institution, professionals working with those institutions should be educated on providing counselling and support to regular educational institutions in the process of inclusion of children with disabilities.
Education for Teaching Assistants
This education is meant for all candidates interested in becoming teaching assistants. Minimal preconditions for teaching assistants include completed secondary school education that lasted for four years. Teaching assistants provide direct support to students with disabilities that attend regular schools. Teaching assistants cooperate with teachers and are a part of school collective. This role requires sensibility to inclusion, sensibility for work with students with disabilities and readiness to learn and gain new competencies. In order to prepare teaching assistants for work in regular educational institutions, additional education is necessary as it enables them to complete their tasks with quality and adequacy.
